Department of Physics honors new Associate Provost of Information Systems, Rick Matthews

On May 14, 2008 we celebrated Rick Matthew's contributions to the Physics Department as scholar, teacher, Graduate Program Director, and Chair. Rick assumed a new position within the university on May 1, 2008 as Associate Provost of Information Systems. We all enjoyed honoring Rick for his many years of selfless service to the Physics Department faculty, staff, and students. We had lunch at Cha-Da Thai restaurant, and the Department gave Rick a new automated storage system, called Drobo, that will come in handy in his new role.

The Provost has instructed the Physics Department to begin a search for a tenure-track faculty replacement, and the search will begin during the Fall 2008 semester. Rick will be sorely missed by all of his friends and colleagues in the Physics Department, and we hope to keep in close touch with him during his time as Associate Provost for Information Systems.
